Euroclasses for sandwich panels

ROCKWOOL stone wool is in the safest of the seven Euroclasses: A1.

In accordance with EN 13501-1, A1 products do not required the small flame test and generally not the SBI (Single Burning Item) test except for surfaced products which is not the case for ROCKWOOL stone wool used for sandwich panels. ROCKWOOL cored sandwich panels with dedicated adhesives meet the calorific value and SBI criteria for the highest class A2-s1,d0 sandwich panel Reaction to Fire performance = insignificant contribution to fire, very little smoke, no burning droplets.

The table below gives an overview about the limiting factors of each Euroclass for both the whole sandwich panel and the substantial and non substantial parts of the sandwich panel.

EN 14390 Room Corner test is a larger scale test than SBI and gives consistent results with real fire. It is the reference Reaction to Fire test in Europe. SBI is a smaller scale test theoretically correlated to the Room Corner test. However this correlation does not work for sandwich panel products and shows a very different behaviour except for stone wool core sandwich panels.
