European fire standards
ROCKWOOL stone wool meets the highest and most stringent classes of European and international fire standards and as such enables ROCKWOOL core sandwich panels to meet :
- Euroclass A2,
- FM Class 1 of well known FM Global insurance company.
Since 2002, EN fire standards have harmonised all the different national standards that previously existed in EU member states. However in some countries, it is still possible to find the old standards, while they are in the process of being replaced.
Standards in force for assessing fire behaviour of building products are:
- EN 13501-1: Fire classification of construction products and building elements - Part 1: classification using test data from Reaction to Fire test.
The purpose of Reaction to Fire testing is to determine whether a material fuels a fire. - EN 13501-2: Test for Fire Resistance of construction elements.
Fire Resistance indicates how well a building component - for a stated period of time - can hold back the fire and prevent it from penetrating from one room to another.
