Environmental production figures 2002-2007

To monitor our progress in environmental efficiency, we have set up a number of environmental key figures. The figures cover key areas, such as consumption of resources, emissions and working environment.

Environmental production figures

Excluding impact from product use. The total life cycle sustainability balance for a typical insulation product is illustrated in the Environment 2008 report’s sustainability balance charts.

The key environmental fi gures include consumption and emissions in the production phase at the Rockwool factories. The energy consumption is calculated in mWh and the water consumption in m3. All other key fi gures are calculated by weight. The key figures are indexed and shown per tonne line stone wool, except accidents among factory workers (direct personnel) which are indicated per million working hours. Our second plant in Hungary, which was acquired during the last few days before year end 2003 is included in the 2004 fi gures. For one of the acquired factories, some of the data was not registered.

A green ‘smiley’ indicates a positive trend from 2002-2007.
Red indicates a set-back from 2002-2007.

Green field factories

Society’s growing need for insulation to reduce energy waste and CO2 emissions means that the Rockwool Group will be building new factories on greenfield sites.

Keeping our own house in order

In 1991, the Rockwool Group acquired the stone wool factory in Flechtingen in the Eastern part of Germany.  A good, responsive dialogue with the local community is maintained and the quality of air and environment is high.
